National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In the last month you have probably seen a lot of pink start to pop up. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and because of the pink ribbon that has been created to symbolize breast cancer awareness, prevention, and research October tends to turn pink. In 1993 Evelyn Lauder founded The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and it was at this point that the pink ribbon was established its symbol. The pink ribbon was used before 1993, but it did not become an official symbol until this time.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month was established more than 25 years ago and throughout the month NBCAM has been a time to promote awareness of breast cancer and issues that surround breast cancer. During the month women are encouraged to become educated and empowered concerning their own health.

Women are encouraged to find a low cost screening location here to ensure that they are getting regular screenings. Regular screenings can prevent breast cancer from progressing and saves lives in many instances.

So, no matter how you do it, try to support breast cancer awareness this month.  If that means buying something that has been made pink or simply encouraging a loved one to get a screening, do it! Find a way to support the cause in your life.  Take advantage of the many different opportunities that are available for supporting breast cancer awareness throughout this month.
