How can You Save Money and Energy in your Home

How can You Save Money and Energy in your Home

Every month the utility bills come in.  Electric, gas, and water.  For a home or apartment with children or undisciplined roommates, the monthly utility bills can add up to a substantial amount of your monthly budget.  For those who wish to cut back on energy and utility bills in order to save money, consider employing a few techniques and tips that will cut costs on monthly bills.

Firstly, regulate the thermostat!  In most places around the country it is cold in the winter and hot in the summer, which often means that most homes use massive amounts of energy every year to regulate the temperature within their homes.  Keeping one’s home at a comfortable level is not inherently bad, but keep in mind that turning the thermostat down by just one degree will cut one percent off your yearly energy bill.

By turning the thermostat down in the winter and up in the summer a family or individual can save literally hundreds of dollars per year.  One might want to consider purchasing a programmable thermostat that you can set your preferences to and it will do the rest.  In this way the thermostat will automatically turn itself down during the times it can to save energy, say at night or when you are at work.

Beyond the thermostat a home should plug its leaks that let all of the literally purchased air out of the house. Windows and door frames will be the problem areas so consider taking measures to stop unwanted air flow out or in of these places.

With regular conservation techniques, such as switching off lights when not in use and being wise with your water use daily, and with a tighter rope when it comes to a home’s temperature a family and an individual can save hundreds on their monthly bills.
